That is part of a group show with the Murfreesboro Art League. We have the reception for that on Fri, Jan 26 from 6-7 pm.

Then, I have my work at Trellis and Vine in Smyrna. The reception for that is Sat, Jan 27 from 4-6. Come see art if you are in the area! Here's a link to the event:

Summer Art Camp for 2022 is already full.

The kids' art camp that the Murfreesboro Art League hosts is already full for 2022. Thanks for all the inquiries. Due to my current work schedule, I am unable to do multiple weeks in the summer, so it has curtailed our program a bit.

Children's Art Camp in Murfreesboro

The Murfreesboro Art League will be hosting Children's Art Mini-camps in July. I am the teacher. Instead of doing a full week, we will do every Wed from 9-noon. All supplies are included, as well as a snack. They will come home with at least one art piece each week. We will take precautions, like mask wearing indoors and when we're near each other, as well as social distancing. We'll cover watercolor, acrylics, perspective, color theory, and more. Hurry, DEADLINE is June 30. Maximum 10 students! Do all 4 days for a discount, or just one at a time!

Murfreesboro Art League Children's Art Camp

Sadly, I have decided to cancel art camp for the summer of 2020. Since I am the teacher, I've had to make a tough call. I have asthma and a heart condition, and I believe I will be staying home much of the summer. Sorry. I hope to resume the kids' art camp again next year. -Suz

Multiple shows going on

I have been blessed lately with my works. I currently and/or soon will have nearly 60 of my paintings and photos on display. My plein air works from my recent camping trip are on display for about 1 1/2 weeks at Cultivate Co-working in Murfreesboro. (If you don't know what co-working is, stop by and ask Gretchen)

In addition, I always try to have some works up at the Murfreesboro Art League. I don't have a photo of the current group up there, however. I have several of my up-cycled works at a boutique in Berry Hill at the Smart Supplies location.
I also have some of my florals and abstracts (non-representational) at Springhouse Worship and Arts Center in Smyrna. They have amazing plays there, like the upcoming "Oklahoma." I have season tickets because the acting is so good!

Plein air camping trip this summer

I have been so busy this summer. I went on a 3 1/2 week camping and painting trip from TN, through LA and TX and on to CA. I wanted to prove that a 50something woman could do something like that alone. It was a wonderful experience, and I got many beautiful photos and paintings out of it. Here are some of the paintings from that trip. I have since touched up the skies and parts that were messed up while travelling, but this gives the general idea.

Late October

This has been a busy month for me. I did these two on Sat, October 24. We always try to have some of our artists painting during the Harvest Days at Cannonsburgh Historic Village in Murfreesboro. The Murfreesboro Art League is at the back of Cannonsburgh.

It's been a long time!

Due to working multiple jobs and teenage sons, I haven't posted on here in a while. My goal over the summer is to update some of the paintings on here and let you know what I've been up to in my life. I've started taking oil painting lessons and watercolor lessons. I THOUGHT I was getting pretty good at painting, but now it turns out I'm basically starting over. Here's a little (8x10) oil I'm working on. This was taken with my not-so-smart phone, so it's a bit blurry, but you can get the idea.

Monday night Acrylic painting class

Stay tuned:  We are not sure at this time if our air conditioner will be fixed for Monday night's class, so it might have to be postponed.

However, if you don't have supplies yet, here's the list.  Most things are kind of flexible, so bring what you have if you don't have the exact colors.

Mark Jackson will be teaching acrylic classes. He has asked us to bring the following:

Canvases: three 8x10s (one for each week)

Paints:
Cadmium White
Ultramarine Blue
Cobalt Blue
Burnt Umber
Burnt Sienna
Cadmium Yellow
Cadmium Red
Yellow Ochre
Phthalo Green (probably what I have will do the whole class)

Brushes: they can be old watercolor brushes or old (clean) oil brushes.
Just a small assortment of flats and rounds.
3/4" flat
1/2" flat
#2 round
#6 bristle fan

Pencil, Kneaded Eraser, Transfer Paper, Scotch Tape, Paper Towels, Spray Bottle, Trash Bag

Something to put your paints on.

I use a 12" x 20" x 2" porcelain pan.  When I am through painting for the day I can slip it into a trash bag and fold it down over the end and my paint does not dry out and I am not putting out new paint every time I start. As of this evening I have paint in my pan wet for over 3 weeks.

The Murfreesboro Art League has several members who will be participating in the Greenway Arts Festival in Murfreesboro this Sat.  As far as I know, Carol Berning, Carole Carroll, Mark Jackson, Heloise Shilstat, and Suzanne LeBeau will be showing their art.  If there are others, let me know and I'll get the word out.  Come on out and support the arts! http://wgnsradio.com/news.php?viewStory=3285

It's all in your choices.  You can look at different situations as a set-back or a step up in your growth as a person.

Foggy morning

My fingers began to get numb
As I slowly inched my way along
Afraid I would slip on the icy, muddy bank,
I placed my feet carefully.
Silence filled the air
As my breath hung like a ghost
Maybe it would be better on the other side.
The worn tread on my shoes did little to help
As I made my way across the icy bridge.

Ahhh, perfect!
Suddenly, a bird, with flapping wings
Startled me almost as much as my quiet click
Must have frightened him.
It's time to head home now -
I've gotten what I set out to find.
May all my Thanksgivings be
As peaceful as this one!

back??

I know it's been a while since I've been on here.  I had too much time on my hands back then and started too many projects at the same time.  I'll try to update my art and send a few blog ideas out there.  They keep coming into my head, but working multiple jobs makes it hard to get them down here.

Perserverance - Volkswagen Commercial: The Force

I wasn't sure how to put these thoughts in with the commercial below.  I was watching this on another blog earlier and it reminded me of that kind of plucky spirit of just-keep-at-it-ism.  Yeah, I just made up a new word; I'm feeling pretty good.  lol  The little boy does his thing over and over, but just doesn't give up hope.  No matter how many things don't work out for him and his "force," he keeps trying.
Sometimes, in my daily life I need a little reminder that things DON'T always work out.  I know, I know - I'm supposed to be practicing my patience, but I think that'll be a lifelong struggle.  I want things to work my way right NOW.  I really DO realize that I'm supposed to step back, reassess the situation and maybe go at it from a different direction, or maybe simply get back to work.  Unfortunately, in reality, I sometimes just hide myself in a game, or I stay busy with other activities.
How many of you out there KNOW your direction deep down inside, but things don't work out, so you give up?  Let's be like this little fellow and persevere!
